And this one is for the theatre lovers, the history buffs, the curious — or simply any woman who fancies getting out of the house, doing something a little different and meeting some lovely new people. Join Flourish Experiences for a fabulous Friday in Hobart as we step behind the curtain at the historic Theatre Royal, followed by a relaxed pub lunch and drink at the Hobart Town Hotel.

Come on your own, bring a friend, your mum, sister or daughter — everyone is welcome and there’s no membership required.

Behind the Scenes at the Theatre Royal

We’ll meet outside Hobart’s beautiful Theatre Royal at 10.30am for our private guided behind-the-scenes tour. Opening its doors in 1837, the Theatre Royal is Australia’s oldest working theatre and has been at the heart of Tasmania’s performing arts scene for almost 190 years.

This gorgeous 700-seat theatre has welcomed generations of performers and audiences through its doors, with some extraordinary names having trodden its boards over the years, including Laurence Olivier, Vivien Leigh, Noël Coward and Marcel Marceau.

But this time, we’re not simply taking our seats in the audience. Our guided tour will take us behind the scenes to discover parts of the Theatre Royal that the public rarely get to see. Along the way, we’ll hear entertaining stories about the theatre’s colourful past, its beautiful building and some of the performers who have graced its stage. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see one of Tasmania’s true cultural treasures from a completely different perspective.

Then It’s Time for Lunch!

Following our tour, we’ll take a short walk together to the Hobart Town Hotel for a relaxed Flourish lunch. And there’s plenty of history here too!

The site dates back to 1814 and was originally home to Hobart’s first post office. By 1851 it had become a pub bearing the Hobart Town Hotel name, and many Hobart locals will remember the venue from its later years as Maloney’s.

Today, it’s once again the Hobart Town Hotel — a classic Hobart pub full of timeless Tassie character and the perfect spot for us to settle in, enjoy lunch and have a good chat. Your ticket includes your choice of main meal plus a glass of beer, wine or soft drink.

Please note that we will be walking between the Theatre Royal and Hobart Town Hotel - and there are also a number of stairs at the Theatre Royal, so comfortable shoes are recommended. A lift can be arranged at the Theatre Royal for those who struggle with stairs.

This experience begins at the Theatre Royal and concludes at the Hobart Town Hotel. Transport to and from the event is not included.

You absolutely do not need to know anyone to join us. In fact, lots of our ladies arrive at their first Flourish event on their own. There’s no membership, no cliques and no need to bring a friend — although friends, sisters, mums and daughters are very welcome too.
